Gale and SHAFR seek applications for three (3) Gale-SHAFR Non-Residential Fellowships, which will support research or teaching projects that rely on Gale Primary Sources and use digital humanities methodologies. Along with select Gale Primary Sources archives, awarded fellows will be given access to Gale Digital Scholar Lab for the duration of their fellowship. Applicants must make clear how they will use digital methods and the corpus of materials in Gale Primary Sources to further their research and teaching.

Each fellowship of $2,500 will support the equivalent of one-month's full-time work (160 hours). Fellowships will be awarded at the SHAFR Conference and must be completed by December 15, 2024. Awardees may dedicate four consecutive weeks to the fellowship project, or they may spread their work out over a longer period.

Applications will include a c.v. and a letter addressing the following:

  • Whether you would use the Gale Digital Scholar Lab, the U.S. Declassified Documents Online, both, or a different Gale digital database
  • How this will help advance your research agenda
  • What other research funding you currently receive
  • How this will help your career

Applications and questions should be emailed to James Stocker [email protected] by May 30th.
