Randall B. Woods

 

Randall B. Woods is John A. Cooper Distinguished Professor of History at the University of Arkansas where he has taught since 1971. A student of Robert Divine, Woods received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. He served as president of the Arkansas Council on the Humanities and as both associate dean and dean of Fulbright College at Arkansas. In 1992, the Alumni Association named him its outstanding teacher/researcher, and in 1994 the teaching Academy recognized him with its Award of Excellence. Among Woods' publications are, The Roosevelt Foreign Policy Establishment and the 'Good Neighbor: The United States and Argentina, 1941-1945, A Changing of the Guard: Anglo-American Relations, 1941-1946, the Dawning of the Cold War (with Howard Jones), Fulbright: A Biography (winner of the Ledbetter and Ferrell Awards), Quest for Identity: America since 1945, and in 2005, The Patriot: Lyndon B. Johnson and Twentieth Century America. Woods is the recipient of research fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Philosophical Society, and the American Council of Learned Societies. He has directed some fifteen doctoral dissertations. Woods lives in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with his wife Rhoda and is the proud grandfather of three girls and one boy.
